Multi-RR 'Encounter at Folkston' Train Art Print - Signed

In Stock and Ready to Ship!Folkston, Georgia is located just North of the Georgia-Florida state-line. Due to its strategic location, the city of Folkston is where two important arteries of the Atlantic Coast Line, (CSX) Railroad converge. One of the line carries traffic originating from Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, and further parts North and West of both cities. The other line serves as the mainline between New York and Miami. Needless to say, the volume and diversity of traffic is very high. Even during the fifties, as depicted int his print, it would not be unusual to witness as many as 125 trains per day. thus, the need for an interlocking tower and lots of signals. Robert West's grandfather's trains operated on both lines as well as both directions. His Champions, Floridians, Havana Specials, along with various other limiteds and local passenger trains were just part of the almost endless daily parade. Here, the South Wind from Waycross and points North are shown entering the double-tracked mainline. A southbound freight is held at bay by the semaphore signals on the distant signal bridge. A northbound freight leaves red signals and dust in its wake as it hurtles past the interlocking tower. The conducter waves at an excited young boy as he witnesses this encounter at Folkston. This area is known amongst railroad employees and enthusiasts alike as the Funnel. This popular train watching site is now complete with a wheelchair accessible viewing platform, a scanner on loudspeakers, and picnic tables with grills. This was built and maintained by te city of Folkston. People come from all over the world to watch trains at this location.
